Introduction

Today we will be working to uncover the answer to the age-old question, “What is the meaning of life?”

One of the reason’s this question is so difficult to answer is because as humans, we take a collective approach to answering this question; in other words, we assume the answer must be holistically representative of humanity’s purpose.

The key to uncovering purpose or meaning in life is to focus on the one subject whose life you control: your own.

Each person has a unique upbringing, individual life experiences, and distinctive way of being.

It is impossible to assume that as humans, we all share a combined purpose; other than we each must seek to become the best versions of ourselves.

No one knows you, better than you; but, we barely spend any quality time reflecting on our fundamental capabilities and the positive experiences that have given us energy throughout our lives.

Most of our time is spent ruminating over past failures and missed opportunities, which leads to feelings of depression or the many possible outcomes for our future without an actionable plan to get there, which leads to feelings of anxiety.

Today’s lesson is geared towards helping you uncover your life’s purpose, first through a subjective self-assessment of past good experiences and then by moving into a visioning exercise to help you map out your idealistic future.

I will challenge you to take these exercises seriously and to actively participate in the course by completing the exercises when directed. To ensure the best results, give yourself about two to two and a half hours to complete the exercises.

Make sure you are in a quiet and comfortable place that allows for undisturbed reflection.

By the end of this course, you will:

  • Choose a career that inspires and motivates you
  • Select a major of study for college or specialized post graduate degree
  • Know what you are able to offer organizations during interviews
  • Prepare better career materials like résumés and cover letters
  • Avoid burning out in your future career
