Hi, I'm Aimee Bateman and I am the founder and CEO of Careercake.com. In this course I am going to talk about how you can use LinkedIn to job hunt.  Now, here at Careercake, LinkedIn is one of the topics that we get questions on the most.  I have been delivering seminars on using LinkedIn for years.

You might be on LinkedIn, but are not doing anything about it.  You have got your photo up and written a couple of bullet points. Frequently, I hear people say “I’m on LinkedIn, it’s fine!” but they are not really using it effectively. What they are doing is they are in the room, they are at the party, with all of these wonderful influencers, but they are stood in the corner by the canapés not talking to anybody.

This course is going to cover:

  • How to optimise your online profile and build your personal brand
  • We are going to teach you how to network effectively and get noticed
  • Showcase your value to potential recruiters and LinkedIn members, and
  • Use LinkedIn to its full potential

Five years ago I was a recruitment consultant from Barry Island.  I don't know if many of you know where that is?  It is a small town in South Wales.   Nobody outside of my industry knew my name. I had visions of growing this international global business called Careercake - I like careers and I like cake.  The reason why you are here, right now, watching this trailer, is because of everything that I have done on LinkedIn since that moment.  I want to share all of that with you.  I have not just been on a course or read a blog, it is all stuff that I have done and I know works.  I wanted to work with the BBC, I wanted to have my own show.  I wanted to work with universities all over the UK, all over the world.  I wanted to work with James Caan. People that did not know my name and probably would never have responded to an email if I had sent them one five years ago. However, because of the way I used LinkedIn to get myself out there, engage with people, get people to notice who I was and make other people feel special, all those things came true.

So, come with me on this course and I will show you how you can use LinkedIn to show the world how good you are.

So well done! Takes (most) fear out of creating a profile and makes very clear the importance of valuing your connections, making people feel seen and heard and appreciated. Great, gentle reminders on LinkedIn etiquette too! My husband loved your short hair too! And we both always love your knowledge, enthusiasm, love and concern for people.

Great advice on how to use LinkedIn. Ideal for people like me who have a profile but do nothing with it.....yet. If you do not have a profile it is worth setting one up and having a play before watching the course to help with context. Off to look for photos next.

I've let my profile slide for way too long, but this course has got me all fired up again, and I'll be going off to the site straight way after writing this. You never fail to impress me with the way you deliver everything you do, and always inspire me to go further. Thank you again, and thank you to all of your team for all they contribute. Take care and have a great day.
